    When you drive a new car off the lot that car depreciates tremndously in value that takes about two years for you not to be upside down in it. Instead, if you buy a car two years old, somebody else has already paid the deprceiation on it. Of course, it won't be $8,000.....

    Family of 6 in Smyrna, TN outside of Nashville and we spend about 1500-1600. The younger ones are home schooled and the eldest children, myself included, carry jobs that require us to work from home some weeks and away the next, so it’s expensive. Making lunch is similar to feeding a football team

    This is one of the worst traps people get into. I’ve always been able to thankfully buy great used cars and I help anyone I can do it too. Not totally against loans if the options are limited which they usually are, but financing a $35,000-$50,000 car new is a terrible burden to have.

    Actually ladies can spend all the money, what men have and sometimes more. So I would not do that. I think, I would share the bills but if a lady wants to buy something for herself, she needs to get the money for it. I live in Hungary and here it is not enough, if 1 of the 2 works. But most of the ladies can spend a lot of money. Helping out each other is another thing. ;)

    It's so misleading to say you have to spend $1,000 to get $10. That's a 1% return. With a single no annual fee card you would normally get 2%. But there are many other cards that get 3% on certain categories. The Robin Hood card will get 3% on all purchases. But there's more. When you sign up for a card you should be getting a bonus. A basic no annual fee card might have a bonus of $200 for spending $500 which is a 40% return on spend. There are a lot more tricks and benefits of different cards like purchase protection, primary rental car insurance, travel insurance, but let's say you average about 5% back when you include the random sign up bonuses for the cards you occasionally apply for and the base rate of return for your spend. If you get credit card points and use them wisely, you can get 2+ cents per point value. This means you are functionally getting about 10% back on all of your spending which is not nothing. Sure, there is a pitfall of spending more in order to get a bonus or because you have a good rate of return on a given category. But pretending like you're only getting 1% back is very misleading.

  • @JakeHand
    @JakeHand 3 часа назад

    Good warnings, but most cards only require $100 spend to get $1 back. I agree with @whitenoisewhale4342 that you're leaving money on the table when you don't use cards for most purchases. When you're budgeting with YNAB or Every Dollar, you only spend money you already have using your credit card. That means you're not overspending, and there's zero risk.

    Wife and I are on Baby Step 7 and debt free for 2.5 years. While it's not recommended for everyone, for the past few months we've been using a Wells Fargo high rewards 2% cash back credit card for every purchase and immediately pay off the balance same day. Collectively we earned around $1500 (no interest, no fees) and recently cashed out and invested that money. There are cards out there with high rewards and no fees, but again, using them isn't recommended unless you are debt free and very, very strict and very, very good at budgeting. Cash is still King! Cheers!

    Credit card rewards are not for making money or building wealth. Credit card rewards are a return on spend on purchases you were going to make anyways. Purchases like bills, utilities, gas, dining ect. Credit cards when used responsibly are a game changer. If you pay in cash or with a debit card, remember... youre leaving money on the table.
